Our super rustic and cool family tradition is to head over to Lowes to pick out our tree, John is usually satisfied with the first one we walk up to because he doesnt care at all about this family tradition of mine, but I make us look around a little while longer every year. Poor Max in his vest that is so puffy it covers his face.
The babes are in awe of the new addition to our family room! We raised it up a bit so that it wouldnt be quite as tempting for them. They have been pretty good too and we haven't lost any ornaments (although a couple of times I have come in the room and a couple are swinging)
The good news is that our antlers were able to double as a Happy Birthday sign to John
He loved his Birthday surprise!
For those of you who are not aware of our Christmas tradition, let me share with you...
For the 2nd year in a row we (our family as well as our church) are participating in something called advent conspiracy (go to their website to watch the video... adventconspiracy.org)
Every year Americans spend about 450 billion dollars on Christmas, while it is estimated that it would only take about 10 billion dollars to solve the problem of world water (lack of clean water is the #1 killer in the world) Along with a lot of other churches we are trying to use Christmas as a time to change the world and share the love of Jesus instead of buying into the greed that has taken over.... what do we do? instead of buying gifts for people we make them, or spend a lot less on them and then the money that we would have spent on buying gifts goes toward the advent conspiracy. As a church all of our money is going to building what will hopefully end up being 2 wells in Tanzania.
We still exchange our handmade gifts and spend quality time with our family, but it has been so special to change our Christmas tradition! I can't tell you what we have been making, but Max, Neveah, and I have been busy!
For those of you who were worried that John doesn't get into Christmas at all, never fear each year I break him down and he gets more and more festive!!!
One of our Christmas traditions is for my mom and I and all (or whichever ones can make it) of the Priddy women go to tea at the Jefferson. This year I had two little side kicks and we ate at the restaurant instead of having tea. They did a great job at being super fancy and having good manners! After we ate we all enjoyed the live music they had and looked at all the decorations. Max and Neveah were so excited to have the freedom to walk all around, they just laughed and laughed as they entertained all the ladies still enjoying their tea!
